The weather is getting nice and we’re excited to GET OUT AND PLAY!
Join us on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club for the Charity Golf Event! It’s going to be an awesome day on the course in support of Children’s Beach House and some very special kids throughout the state of Delaware!
It was a long time ago and over sixty years have passed but I still remember walking with other campers at Children’s Beach House (CBH), getting dressed and ready for the day, and then proceeding to the dining room for those wonderful breakfasts. I know it might seem like a small thing but those pancakes are still to this day the best I’ve ever had.
Now 70 years old, I still have wonderful memories of being one of the very fortunate campers at CBH in the 1950s. Of course, I wasn’t there just for the wonderful food, swimming in the bay, and campfires on the beach. I was there as a camper with a special need. Recently visiting CBH and meeting some of the wonderful staff, a lot appears to be the same but obviously much has changed. What has remained the same is a staff whose goal is simply: the kids come first.
Being only 7 years old at the time, I didn’t realize how fortunate I was to spend summers along with other kids, all with our own diverse range of special needs, and with a skilled staff to help each and every one of us. But CBH was more than just a great staff of professional caregivers who helped us all in our childhood, there was also a wonderful domestic staff that took care of the Campers every day. Like any 7-year-old, being away from his or her parents for a long period was difficult, and being homesick was natural. But wow, was I lucky to have Ms. Kate take me under her care. She watched over me, made sure that I knew I was part of her family, made sure I did the right thing (in other words “behave”) and helped me through periods when I sometimes felt alone.
In memory of Ms. Kate Maul and all the great staff in the 1950s and today, we are making a donation to Children’s Beach House to help with a future Camper.
The #LewesLights tours gave us an opportunity to reach people who may not have otherwise known that our organization existed! It quite literally put us “on the map” for a lot of people who didn’t know who we are, where we’re located, and what we do.
With the Governor’s recent announcement which has tightened restrictions on gatherings, we have unfortunately had to cancel all of the Winter Wonder Weekend events.
We understand the gravity of the situation and will honor the Governor’s directions as we are committed to doing our part in keeping our community safe. We are now working through the process of contacting our generous Sponsors and ticket holders to inform them of the cancellations.

The Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 7297, affiliated with St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, gives a $1000 donation to the Children’s Beach House in Lewes.
In presenting the gift, Grand Knight Richard Duffy said, “Our programs and projects draw men closer to their faith, families and communities, and defend life in all stages and in all conditions within a framework that we refer to as Faith In Action. An important part of our Life program is our Tootsie Roll Drive; 100% of the proceeds from that activity are dedicated to support individuals with special needs.”
The teachers from Children’s Beach House made special deliveries to the preschool students during the COVID-19 closures. Each bag contained supplies, activities, crafts, a Mother’s Day project, snacks, and special notes from the teachers. Keeping our kids and families connected with their school and the teachers who miss seeing them on a daily basis.
While our on-site programming for the Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center and our Youth Development Program is suspended, we are stepping up to keep our kids and families connected and supported in every way. Our focus remains on the well-being of our entire Children’s Beach House community as we face this situation together.
