Children’s Beach House wishes to thank Don Wainwright and Tom Jamison, of Rehoboth Beach, for hosting a recent recruitment event at CBH’s main facility in Lewes. With over 75 people in attendance, the party was one of the largest gatherings in the Beacon Society’s six-year history. Conceived as a tea dance, the party had a ‘70s theme, with music by Dune Tunes’ DJ Sharon Messina and specialty drinks and food by Greater Good Events. “So many of our friends came in with little knowledge of what Children’s Beach House is or what it does for vulnerable kids all across the state,” said Jamison. “We wanted to bring our community together in a fun way because we know CBH is doing the kind of important work they would want to be part of.”

Beacon Society members pledge their support for Children’s Beach House in annual giving amounts starting at $1,000. The regular and dependable contributions allow CBH to be strategic and adaptive in its work with children who experience speech and language disabilities and come from under-resourced homes. In addition to insider updates and invitations to VIP gatherings, members enjoy complimentary tickets to CBH’s annual Beach BBQ in August, as well as other ways to engage throughout the year.

CBH Executive Director Rich Garrett spoke to attendees about the organization’s mission and work, after which Jamison and Wainwright talked about why they have chosen to support CBH. “I know what happens to kids when they face bullying because of some aspect of their identity,” Wainwright said. “Having a place like Children’s Beach House for those kids can literally be lifesaving. It gives them a sense of belonging in the world.”

Garrett said he was thrilled with the turnout and the response from attendees, who pledged almost $20,000 that evening. He hopes dinners like these might be a meaningful way to connect established friends of the organization with new folks who are committed to life-changing outcomes for Delaware’s youth.
